About Me

Minimize

Welcome to my page! I was born in New York, and have lived in Houston since I was 4 years old. I am a Cy-Fair ISD and University of Houston graduate. My mother retired this year (2013) from teaching pre-k in SBISD, and my older brother was a teacher for a few years before becoming a lawyer in San Antonio. I was a kindergarten teacher for 6 years at Treasure Forest Elementary before making the move to pre-k. I have been teaching bilingual pre-k at Wildcat Way School for 5 years, and am looking forward to starting my Masters degree program in counseling this Spring 2013 at St. Thomas University. My teaching philosophy is that "the stronger start, the better the finish", which is why I practice a balanced literacy approach filled with fun hands-on learning opportunities on all skill levels. I want all of my students to feel successful everyday, and I love to encourage creativity and individualism. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, travelling to Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina and Colorado to visit my family, going to the pool/beach, doing kickboxing, zumba and yoga, and going to the movies. One of my favorite quotes is from author/teacher Dr. Harry Wong, "A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the type of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but that the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." Thanks for stopping by, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to e-mail me at christine.chumillo@springbranchisd.com. :)
