About Me

I taught in the high school setting eight years prior to coming to WAIS last year.  I love being a Wildcat!  I graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Sociology.  Before finding my way here, I was an editor for a medical publisher in Virginia.  I also taught English in Japan.  I am available for tutorials after school Thursdays at 3:10-4:00 and by appointment.  This year, I will be relying heavily on Livebinder and Remind101 to get information to students and parents regarding day-to-day business and important dates.

You will need map pencils (colored pencils) for the purpose of map work and projects in this class.  You will also need two composition books (one for each semester) to be used for reflections, journals, and notes.

In Language Arts, you will read a variety of genres including fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, adventure, memoir, etc. You will be writing and research topics that are academically challenging and exploratory in nature. You will need a notebook for your Reading/Writing Log.  This notebook will be kept in the classroom.

Every two weeks, we will go to the library to check out books for Silent Sustained Reading (SSR).  SSR will be conducted in the first ten minutes of math class.  You will be expected to keep Dialectical Journal notes in your notebook and they will be checked regularly.

I will be keeping pertinent documents, resources, and rubrics on my Livebinder this year.  Access it at http://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=1482495
