In fourth grade, we focus on writing and the components of our writing. We learn about writing a Personal Narrative- telling a story about an event and Expository- explaining something. We also learn skills for editing and revising writing.
We study many concepts throughout the year in math. We use technology (such as Netbooks, Itouches, Activeboards, etc) to reinforce the concepts we are teaching. We also use Singapore Math to teach many of the concepts. We also utilize both whole group and small group instruction in order to ensure the most success for our students. There is a lot of hands-on and workstation time to practice the skills as well.
The main concepts we study are:
- Number concepts
- Patterns and patterns in numbers
- Math Facts
- Problem Solving
The units we study throughout the year are:
- Life Cycles
- Force and Motion
- Living/Non Living
The focus of social studies is Texas History. We begin by focusing on the geography of Texas and the different regions. Then we learn about Native Americans and explorers and the impact each had on Texas History. We also study events in Texas from the exploration until now (ex: battles, wars, cattle, oil, etc).
