Today’s Readers, Tomorrow’s Leaders!

Treasure Forest was lucky to have an author visit us in the library.  Michael Hodge, author of the Bilingual Benny books, came to visit our campus on Friday, September 5.  He visited with the Kinder, 1st, and 2nd graders.  We enjoyed meeting Benny.  Thank you to the families that supported us by purchasing books for their children to read.  And a big thank you to Mr. Hodge for coming to Treasure Forest.  Please click on the picture below to watch a short video of photographs from the visit.

Treasure Forest Learning Commons is the heart of the school. Students will participate in read alouds or lessons, along with check-out, on a weekly basis.  My goal is to have students learn how to check-out their own books so that they can come get a new book as soon as they finish one without having to wait for their class to come.  Technology, including computers, laptops, and ipads, are used daily by classes and individual students.

Books are checked out for one week. When a book is returned the student may check out another one. If a book is needed for longer than one week, it may be rechecked and the due date extended.
If a book is lost or damaged too badly to be used in the library, the student must pay for the book. End-of-year report cards are not distributed to students owing money for a book.

Family Night at the Library is every other Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00.   Families read, check out books, work with technology, participate in literacy activities and receive information from Community Partners.

How Can You Help?

Parents and other adults interested in volunteering in the library are invited to contact the librarian, Mrs. Evetts at 713-251-7427.  We need help every week with shelving and checking out books.  Volunteers are also needed on Library nights.
