8th Grade Science - Our Natural World

Course Overview 

This year we will continue to develop students’ essential science knowledge and skills by exploring the natural world through earth and space science. Our textbook is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Grade 8 Fusion. The curriculum is guided by Texas state required standards and includes the following topics:

First Semester:  Chemistry and Physics

Second Semester:  Geology, Ecology, Meteorology, Sun-Moon-Earth Relationships and Astronomy

Homework

Minimize

When homework is given, it will be assigned Monday or Tuesday of the week and must be competed and returned by the student’s class period at the end of the week on Thursday or Friday, or on a specified date.  Homework is an opportunity to review and practice concepts covered in class and might include group or independent work on unit projects.  

Make-Ups and Tutorials

8th grade science tutorials are offered from 3:30-4:30 pm, or longer when needed.  Students are encouraged to use tutorials to make-up missed labs or unit tests, to retake a test, to get additional help in understanding course concepts, or to complete in-class assignments.  The 8th grade science teaching team is available on the following days, in our classrooms: 

Monday -  Mr. Laws, room A200

Tuesday - Ms. Gissel, room A212

Wednesday - Mr. Laws, room A200

Thursday - Ms. Gissel, room A212
