CIS (Communities In Schools of Houston, Inc.)

Spring Oaks Middle School CIS Representative: Cristal Cervantes

Because we believe in the power of relationships, CIS provides on-campus integrated student supports that empower students to succeed in school and achieve in life.

This is accomplished by providing students with services and/or activities in the following areas:

—  Supportive Guidance and Counseling

—  Parental and Family Engagement

—  Health and Human Services

—  Academic Support

—  College and Career Readiness

—  Enrichment

At SOMS some of our unique activities include:

*Students with Amazing Potential (S.W.A.P.)

With the support of Chapelwood UMC, S.W.A.P.  participants are exposed to career and higher education possibilities. S.W.A.P.  helps them dream about their futures, and build relationships with others through small groups. This is achieved through monthly S.W.A.P. events, including Saturday field trips that focus on different career and educational opportunities, leadership development, and life management skills. For more information about S.W.A.P., please visit

*CIS Girls Group

The purpose of our girls group is to assist students in enhancing basic life skills that include: critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving. In addition, through the use of activities and group discussions, participants will foster new relationships, and enhance their self-esteem. There is no charge to participate and snacks will be provided.  Late buses are available after our gatherings.
