ELA Students will be engaged in a rigorous program of developing modern and effective skills that involve the 5C's: critical thinking, creativity, collaborartion, communication, and citizenship. The ELA program requries the student to read. write, analyze, listen, speak, and present. We will explore a variety of genres throughout the year through consumtion (reading), critique (analysis), and creation (composition/writing). The genres studied in the eight grade are fiction - novels and short stories, poetry, informational text - procedural, expository, and persuasive, and the narrative. Each nine weeks students are required to produce an original piece of writing based on the genre studied. The finished pieces will lform the basis of both an electronic and paper portfolio that will travel with them to high school.

Please see Mrs. Cyphers' and Mr. Jones' web page for all additional details regarding the ELA course.
