WELCOME TO 8th GRADE U.S. HISTORY 1607-1877!!

Please check this website for weekly planning activities and expectations, test days, due dates for projects & reviews, current documents, and web links. The daily activities in the Interactive Notebook are reflective - the more YOU put into it, the MORE you will get out of it! 

2017-2018 Supply List for ALL 8th grade Social Studies Classes is located in the "Important Documents"  section labeled STUDENT SUPPLIES.

 
    All students should arrive to class on time and with their Interactive Notebook every day.The current 8th grade textbook, United States History checked out to you will need to come to class every day as we do NOT have a classroom set. 
  
  All students are REQUIRED to write in their planner daily the homework assignment. There will always be something written for every Social Studies entry. STAY current with your planner! We do have regular Planner Quizzes every 9-weeks! Writing in your Planner DAILY will be the key to time management and therefore SUCCESS in History.
 
   The curriculum for this class is demanding and fast-paced. Please plan for and expect homework EVERY NIGHT and some weekends.  This could range from 15-45 minutes depending on the individual student's use of class time. For your convenience, the Textbook Correlations and may be accessed on this page under the Documents section of this webpage.

  • Graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies and a M.Ed. in Public School Administration.
  • Taught all three grade levels of middle school social studies
  • Taught 8th grade US History and 7th grade TX History in both SBISD and Frisco ISD as well as 6th grade World Cultures in SBISD

THINK about the importance of LEADERSHIP in this problem solving process.

· In your Table groups, you will be given lyrics to Valley Forge. READ the document and make notes on:

WHAT it is saying? WHAT state is the army in? WHY is he saying it?HOW do you think it could make a difference?

· Once you have read through the lyrics and have taken notes over, ONE person from your group will select a verse from the rap.

· As a table group, discuss your verse and brainstorm inside YOUR notebook on page 25 what you want to include on your poster tomorrow about it.

· Think about HOW you will ILLUSTRATE what your verse says!

 ASSIGNMENT:Complete any brainstorming for your verse!

1. Take bullet notes for the Battle of Saratoga answering the following questions:

1. Major Leaders for BOTH sides

2. Battle strategy – plan for winning on BOTH sides

3. Battle Outcome – Who won? Who lost? WHY? Consequences

2. For each Battle create an illustration with figures discussing the battles. Use COLOR, speech & thought bubbles. Figures should represent the British, the Americans, and for Yorktown - the French. Illustrate your notes!
