WELCOME TO LANGUAGE ARTS -8/GT

Semester II Language Arts Final Exam Preparation  2017

Format:

  • You will be asked to respond to 2 passages – 1 will be from novels you have read this semester, one will be “cold” - you may never have read before. For each passage you will be directed to analyze for Literary Structure, Plot, or Characterization.  ALL passages will be analyzed for and tied to AUTHOR’S PURPOSE!
  • REMEMBER to analyze using the proper terminology for each area of analysis.
  • Answer both on Regular notebook paper using ONE side ONLY with blue or black ink PEN ONLY. Reasonable allowances for spelling and neatness will be considered.
  • Content, form, and level of analysis are primary! Turn in the ONE 3 X 5 Note card and ALL papers (outlines, webs, etc.) with this test.
  • EACH response should show the four content areas to be assessed: 1) Thesis Statement, 2) supporting paragraphs WITH text support (in-text citations) 3) Outside piece – parallel to another novel, life, etc. and 4) CLEAR Conclusion statement restating the thesis statement.

Preparation: You may bring in ONE 3 X 5 note card given out in class with notes on literary analysis from our class work. The card MUST be turned in WITH your Final Exam. NO direct quotes or passages from novels may be on the note card.  Notecards will be evaluated for appropriate materials and compliance by the teacher.
