Rummel Creek Elementary first opened in the fall of 1962 under the direction of Principal Shirley Lincoln, who continued her career at Rummel Creek until 2002, when she retired from education.  The Shirley Lincoln Library, built in 2002 was named for the long standing principal.  Dr. Mary McMillian, Bill Burger and Nancy Harn have filled the principal's position for the years following 2002.

The Roadrunner is our mascot.  The school colors are mainly orange and white, but we also use a little blue.  Legend has it that Mrs. Lincoln was a UT graduate and when asked to give school colors she of course named orange and white.  As the school has been remodeled, the use of more blue (a complimentary color of orange) has been added to the palette.

Rummel Creek has been recognized for outstanding test scores, outstanding students, and a dedicated faculty.  Many of the teachers have had long tenures at Rummel Creek.  Rummel Creek has an outstanding active PTA that provides many resources for the teachers and students at Rummel Creek.

Some of the annual events at Rummel Creek include Fourth Grades’ program of the Nutcracker, the Fall Festival in October, Book Fair in November, and a fun PTA sponsored auction held every other school year.

Students may participate in Rummel Creek Fiddlers, Rockin' Roadrunners, Rummel Creek Singers, after school programs,  Odyssey of the Mind as well as many sports sponsored by local churches and other athletic groups.  Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops are also available to students in all grades.  Local civic associations provide pools, tennis and other activities for the students to enjoy.  The Rummel Creek community is a close knit group of families.SBISD.

Now in 2015, we are being rebuilt.  A brand new school stands in place of the old one and we are looking forward to the grand opening in January 2016.  The new school has been built and designed with the collaboration of the PTA, teachers, students, the school district and community.  The new school reflects the needs of the community, teachers and students.  We will have a lovely courtyard with an outdoor learning area, a large gazebo, expanded track and a beautiful playground to be used by the students and community.  The PTA has worked hard to provide all of the extras that will make this new building spectacular.  Artwork completed by students and staff will adorn the walls in the new building.  The history of Rummel Creek begins again in the second 50 years.  We look forward to seeing where the school will go in the future.
