Mr. Smellie is the Head Band Director, Mr. Ortega is the Assistant Band Director for Northbrook High School, and Mrs. Mendez is the Color Guard Instructor.

During the fall semester, the Northbrook High School Band performs as the Ragin' Raider Marching Band.  The band performs at all the varsity football games, pep rallies, several parades and Pre-UIL and UIL Marching Contests and local marching festivals.

During the spring semester, the N.H.S. Band students perform as the Northbrook HS Symphonic Band and the Concert Band.  The bands perform a Holiday Concert, Mid-Winter and Spring Concert.  Students also compete at Region Band and Full Orchestra Try Outs, Solo & Ensemble,  Pre-UIL and UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.

Other competing ensembles may include:  Color Guard/ Winter Guard, Drum line, Indoor Drum line, Jazz Band.  Students need to be enrolled in band to audition for these groups.

******************Grading for band classes will be as follows:

If a student is absent from class or rehearsal, their grade will remain a '0' until a note has been presented to the band director from a parent/guardian/doctor. If the reason for the absence is determined to be a valid excuse by one of the band directors, the absence will be excused in the grade book. An unexcused tardy for class or rehearsal will automatically receive a grade of '80' unless the tardy is deemed excusable by one of the directors.

Because they are an extension of the class period, all rehearsals and performances (outside of regular class times) are given a grade and effect the over-all grade of the student.
