TRANSPORTATION REMINDERS!

Our patrols and at least one staff member are out front every day from 7:30 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.

After 7:50 a.m., depending on availability, an administrator and one of our Watch D.O.G.S. will be out front until about 7:55 a.m.

We ask that you comply with the rules, as follows:

 Stay in your car

·Your child(ren) should only exit from the passenger side of the car.

Pull up to the pole closest to the flag pole, before you allow your child to exit your car.

Students should not walk across the car rider line without adult supervision.

·Drop off for students is in the car rider line only.   The parking lot is not an appropriate drop off point.

·Please do not park in the handicapped spaces without a handicapped sticker.

In the afternoon, display your MWE car rider tag.  This assures us that the person asking to pick up your child is either the parent/guardian or is a person who is approved by you for pickup.

·When you pick up your child early, please park in the parking lot (not the car rider line) and enter the building at the main entrance to sign out your child(ren) in the main office.

·Please do not leave your car unattended in the car rider lane.

è If you are going to pick your child up early, please send a note to the teacher, so that we can have your child ready.   Otherwise, we are interrupting instruction when we have to call the teacher on the walkie (or the phone).

è      If you arrive after 3:30 p.m. to pick up, you will need to come into the building and sign the child(ren) out.

We appreciate your compliance with these procedures.

BUS

We really encourage students to ride the bus.  It is an easy and safe way to be transported.   If you have concerns about student behavior on the bus, you should first speak with the bus driver.  If things are not resolved, please contact the Assistant Principal.

Students can ride a bus as a ‘guest rider’ only on special occasions.  In order to be a guest on a bus the student must bring a note that includes the following:

Your child's name

Name of student with whom your child is going home

Address and phone number of home to which your student is going

Your phone number in case of questions

Parent Signature

This note will be sent to the office and the Assistant Principal will provide a permission note for the student to ride as a guest on a bus.

Bus routes are posted at the beginning of the year.  If you have any questions about routes and times, please contact the Spring Branch Transportation Department at 713-251-1060.

BLUE BUS PASS REQUIRED FOR PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

At the beginning of the year or upon enrollment, all PreK and K parents will be given a BLUE BUS PASS with detailed instructions.

PK and Kinder students will not be let off the bus in the afternoon unless an adult (18 years or older) with the appropriate bus pass is at the bus stop.  Students not let off the bus will be returned to school.  We will then call the parent to come pick up the child at school.

BICYCLE RIDERS

Students may ride bicycles to and from school.  The bicycle racks are located at the front and back of the school.  Once the riders arrive on the MWE school grounds, they must walk their bikes to the rack.  Students should lock their bikes to the rack to prevent theft.  When leaving, students should walk their bike all the way to the street before beginning to ride. Local legislation requires bike helmets for all children under the age of 18.

If inclement weather would put bike riders in jeopardy (e.g., lightning),  an announcement will be made at the end of the day suspending bike riding that afternoon.  Be sure to provide an alternate plan on the transportation form in case of inclement weather.

Car riders can arrive at school each day 7:30 am. Staff members and safety patrols are on duty from 7:30 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.

Afternoon Procedures

We ask that all parents obtain an official MWE car rider hang tag. (see below for link to form to requests an official tag)

Clearly display this tag when you come through the car rider line.  The staff outside will call the numbers via walkie and the staff inside will call your child by name.   There is no need for your child to memorize the car rider hangtag.

Please do not leave your car unattended in the car rider lane.

Car riders will be dismissed to a car only.  You will not be able to walk into the building to pick up your child from the car rider line.

In order to load as many cars as possible, please pull your car up as far as possible. Children will be directed to the correct car.

CHANGE OF TRANSPORTATION

For the safety and protection of our students, transportation changes will not be taken over the phone.

Transportation changes must be in writing and sent to school with your child. The note must include the date of the change, the child’s name, the parent’s name and a phone contact, should there be any questions.

If you need to pick your child up early and you have not sent a note, we ask that you come in before 2:45 p.m.   This assures that we will be able to grant your request.  Should you come later, our staff is involved in end of the day procedures and we may not be able to comply with your request in a timely manner.

PARKING

Please park in the front parking lot only.   The back parking lot is for teachers and the back driveway is for buses and daycare vans.

There is to be parking in the front circle drive at any time during the school day or immediately before or after school.
