A Solid Foundation

The Theatre Arts Department of Memorial High School has a solid foundation in creating great theatrical experiences. We offer a full season featuring at least one musical each year. We also compete in the UIL competitions which include One-Act Play, Theatrical Design and the Film and are part of the ComedySportz High School League in Houston.  We attend Texas Thespian State Festival where we work to advance and compete in the International Thespian Festival and we enter the Tommy Tune Musical Theatre Program each year.  Our diverse and extensive programming allows both students interested in performance and technical theatre to gain the information necessary to enter college and succeed.  Students gain experiences through our four levels of classes in both acting and technical theatre and a variety of theatre performances and design opportunities while active in MHS Theatre.

Awards, Scholarships & International Competitions

MHS Theatre students have received local, state and national theatre scholarships and can be seen working in theatres all over the United States.  As a troupe, we have performed at the International Thespian Festival held each summer at the University of Nebraska campus and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as part of the American High School Theatre Festival.  We have had winners in theatrical design and both students and the department have received Tommy Tune Nominations for their ensemble, technical  and individual work with wins in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor categories along with college scholarships.  MHS students have also been seen at the Jimmy Awards held on Broadway honoring the best in high school musical from around the US.   Students have found both individual and group success within the program and we are continuously proud about our graduates around the globe working in the performing and visual arts.
