Reading Specialist

One of the interventions in place at Frostwood is a dedicated reading intervention position supported by campus PTA funds. Utilizing last year’s end-of-year data and current district assessments, students identified as needing support receive additional guided reading groups each week to accelerate their growth as a reader. In the primary grade levels, these guided reading groups support the acquisition of early reading strategies, develop phonetic knowledge, and engage in talk about the text including problem/solution, character’s feelings, and sequence of events. In the intermediate grade levels, the guided reading groups expose students to diverse topics and genres, support the comprehension of more sophisticated and complex texts, utilize graphic organizers to think about the text, and develop vocabulary and conceptual understandings. The Instructional Leadership Team (administrators, school improvement specialists, math coach and reading intervention specialist) meets regularly with grade level teachers to monitor the progress of these students and consider their instructional needs.
