My name is Ray Karlowicz.
I’m originally from the Philadelphia/South Jersey area and moved to the Houston area in 1989. This is my first year at the Academy of Choice and I’m excited to be here. I’ll be teaching Math, specifically Mathematical Models, Algebraic Reasoning and Math at the Night School. I previously taught Physics at Eisenhower High School in Aldine ISD here in Houston.
My educational background - I have a Master’s degree in Atomic Physics from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Saint Joseph’s College. However, that included extensive computer programing in the days before computer science degrees.
Although I did some teaching at the college and high school levels early in my career, my original career path actually was in computers, software and systems development for over 30 years. I started as a programmer analyst and moved up to be executive management and consultant for multiple global high-technology companies.
Several years ago, I decided to make a career change to return to my roots in math and science. I returned to teaching high school and contribute to the education of young students. I hope to share some of my life experiences and open their minds to new possibilities in technology and their future careers.
