KIPP Courage College Prep
Houston, TX 77055
KIPP Courage College Prep opened at Landrum Middle School in July of 2012 and currently serves 207 college-bound fifth and sixth graders from Houston's Spring Branch community. The school will expand by one grade level each year until it eventually serves nearly 400 fifth through eighth grade students.
The academic and co-curricular programs will develop in underserved students the academic skills, intellectual habits, and qualities of character that prepare students for high school and going to and through college.
KIPP Courage enrolls students based on a lottery that takes place in late February. A percentage of seats are drawn from the applications received for incoming 5th grade students in the Landrum feeder pattern. A second tier of lottery selections are then drawn from other high needs zip codes in SBISD.
If spots are still available after these lottery rounds, students from the rest of SBISD will be selected in an additional lottery.
KIPP Courage offers sibling preference for families based on space availability.
KIPP Houston’s mission is to develop in underserved students the academic skills, intellectual habits and qualities of character necessary to succeed at all levels – prekindergarten through 12th grade, college and the competitive world beyond. Guiding the work of KIPP is a commitment established by its Co-Founder Mike Feinberg to teach students to “Work Hard and Be Nice.”
KIPP, is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. There are currently 109 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 32,000 students.
