Student receives Outstanding Senior in French Award
Westchester Academy for International Studies senior Evani Garcia, who is a student of French and Japanese, has received the 2007-08 Outstanding Senior in French Award from the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). This award is made to a graduating senior who demonstrates both excellence in French studies and commitment to the French language and culture.
Evani, who has won early acceptance to Rice University, studies Japanese in Saturday School at Westchester Academy. An officer in the National French Honor Society, she has studied French for five years and has participated in National French Week activities. A student of French teacher Janet L. Smith, she will soon take Advanced Placement exams in French and Japanese.
AATF was founded 80 years ago. The association promotes the study of the French language, literature and culture. Through its annual awards, the group hopes to motivate more students to continue French studies through teaching or as a complement to a professional career.
