Hurricane threat results in state action here

On Friday, Aug. 29, the Texas Department of Public Safety activated Spring Branch ISD’s Tully Stadium and Don Coleman Coliseum as a state designated Texas Emergency Operations Staging Area. Designation as a Texas Emergency Operations Staging Area will not affect this Friday’s football game at Tully Stadium.

Reachout to Dropouts Walk 2008

SBISD staff and community volunteers are encouraged to participate in the Reach Out to Dropouts Walk 2008, a door-to-door canvassing of students who have not returned to school so far this year. Through this one-day program scheduled Saturday, Sept. 6, trained volunteers  will offer encouragement and resources to Spring Branch students who still need to complete their high school education. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Museum opens First Saturday sessions

The privately funded Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum (AYAM) will begin its “First Saturday” Open House program from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, with a special program focusing on watercolor art. Local artist Sonia Miller will lead a hands-on workshop to help artists from ages five to 105 unleash their creativity. Special programs will be offered each month this fall.

Seven schools win TBEC Honor Roll award

The Austin-based Texas Business & Education Coalition (TBEC) has named six secondary-level Spring Branch ISD campuses and one elementary school to its annual Honor Roll awards list for sustained academic excellence. Less than 4 percent of public schools in Texas earned this top award this year.

District coaches attend mock hearing, lectures
