Where We've Been
The SBISD Strategic Planning Process for the SBISD Five-Year Educational Plan, 2006-2011
Beginning in the fall of 2005, Spring Branch Independent School District embarked on a strategic planning initiative to develop a Five-Year Educational Plan to guide the future of the district. Over the course of the next year, a multi-tiered process engaged hundreds of community members, parents, teachers and administrators through committees and task groups to examine the needs of the district and to develop far-reaching recommendations to assure that SBISD provides exemplary 21st century educational experiences for all.
Findings and Directions
The process began with the work of an 80-member Visioning Team comprised of administrators, Trustees, teachers, parents and community members that met throughout the fall of 2005. The team's work culminated with the development of Findings and Directions which were then used as a planning resource for the Five- Year Educational Plan. These Findings and Directions were approved by the SBISD Board of Trustees on March 27, 2006.

Five-Year Educational Plan Goal Statements
Following the development of Findings and Directions, the SBISD Board of Trustees spent several months developing eight strategic goals that form the foundation of the Five-Year Educational Plan. The Community was invited to comment on the goals via the SBISD website and two community meetings. Based on community feedback, the SBISD Five-Year Educational Plan Goals were modified and a final version was adopted by the SBISD Board of Trustees on July 24, 2006.
Performance Objectives
Six strategic planning task groups, comprised of parents, staff and community members, met during the Spring of 2006 to develop Performance Objectives for each of the Five-Year Educational Plan goals. These objectives are the measures against which the district will assess progress toward the goals in the coming Five-Years.
Action Plans
Following the adoption of the Annual Performance Objectives, SBISD staff developed 18-month Action Plans for each objective of the Five-Year Educational Plan. These plans articulate and under gird the major initiatives the district will pursue between January, 2006 and June, 2008 to move the district forward toward its goals. Quarterly reports by each Senior Staff member, beginning in March, 2007, apprised the Board of Trustees of progress being made and activities occurring to meet the goals. Updated Action Plans were developed annually. Download the 2009-10 Action Plans >>
SBISD wishes to acknowledge and thank Elaine Say, strategic planning consultant, for her guidance and support throughout the development of this plan.
