HOW TO CHECK OUT BOOKS

How do I get a library card?

Your school ID badge is your school library card.

How do I look up a book? Use Meriwether, our online catalog. [Click here to learn how.]
How many books can I check out?

How many do you need?  If you need more than 2 or 3, talk to the librarian about extending your checkout limits.

How long can I borrow a book?

Fiction books – 2 weeks

Nonfiction books – 2 weeks

Reference books, Atlases, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries – 24 hours or overnight

How many times can I renew a book?

Twice – that means you can borrow it for 2 weeks, renew it once for 2 more weeks, then renew it again for another 2 weeks.  That’s a total of 6 weeks.  Renewing your book is always better than keeping it until it’s way overdue.

What is the fine for late books?

There are no fines for late books.  The due date is stamped in the back of your book.  Remember that other students would like to read your book, so please return it on time or renew it if you’re not finished.

May I borrow a book from another school? Yes.  Ask the librarian to help you with interlibrary loan.
What if my book gets damaged?

Please do not repair books.  Let the librarian do that because she has special tape and glue.

What if I lose my book?

Sometimes books are misplaced.  If your library book is missing, check with the librarian - often your book has been found and returned by someone!

If a book is really lost, ask the librarian for the price, pay for it, and clear your record promptly.

USING THE LIBRARY COMPUTERS

May I use the library computers?

Yes.  Students can use the library computers for 2 reasons:

1. Looking up books in the Meriwether Catalog. [Click here to learn how.]

2. Doing research using the databases on the Library Resources Page. [Click here to learn how.]

May I use the Internet?

No.  There is no googling, yahooing, lyrics.com, email, etc.  Please review the Acceptable Use Policy which you signed at the beginning of the schoolyear.  Do not lose your computer privileges by surfing the net.

May I print stuff?

Printing is reserved only for research and homework assignments.  Check with the librarian first before you print.
