Language Arts/Social Studies Weekly Agenda 4th Six Weeks The Social Studies focus this six weeks examines types of governments: thier origins,the role a government plays in society, citizen responsibilities and rights under the various forms of government. We will be reading The Prophet of Yonwood as a read aloud and discuss the impact of religion in the book. Language Arts: Our class novel this six weeks is Speed of Light; our read-aloud novel will continue the City of Ember series with The People of Sparks. Students will learn to analyze and respond in writing to quotes from the literature and use quotes to support the ideas in their writitng.

*After a brief introduction to our unit on government, students will watch "Rabbit Proof Fence."

January 7

*Begin People of Sparks
*Students will demonstrate their understanding of the governmantal role depicted in the film "Rabbit Proof Fence" by participating in a discussion and submitting a written response to the prompt "What is a government's role in society?".

January 8
|
*Students will participate in a simulation on how governments are formed. After a discussion over the simiulation, students will be asked to respond in writing about their experience.
*After teacher modeled examples and whole group review of various sentence structures, students will demonstrate their understanding of sentence variation techniques by using the various structures correctly in thier writing response.

*Students will respond in writing to a quote from the book on the role of government.
