First Semifinalist named at Westchester Academy for International Studies

Elizabeth Krueger won double honors recently. She was named a 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist and became Westchester Academy for International Studies’ first honoree.

Elizabeth and her parents were recognized Oct. 26 during the monthly meeting of the SBISD Board of Trustees. She joins 36 other high school students from across Spring Branch ISD so honored this fall.

Students become eligible for the national scholarship program when they take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. Semifinalist represent less than 1 percent of the high school graduating class in Texas and rank as the state’s highest scoring students.

In addition, three Westchester Academy students were named as recipients in the National Hispanic Recognition Program. They are Elias Kassir, Jonathan Altamirano and Priscilla Cevallos.

Melanie Baca of Westchester Academy was also recognized for high achievement among self-identified African-American students through the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
