Playing for the Cure volleyball match raises funds and awareness

Spring Branch ISD staff members and the parent of a volleyball player were among pregame speakers during the Play for the Cure Match Oct. 9 between Stratford and Memorial high schools.

While these two volleyball teams are tied for first place, the second annual match-up raised research funds and awareness about breast cancer and other cancers. Speaking to a packed crowd before the varsity game about their own experiences with cancer were:

  • Tina Young, Memorial High varsity softball and freshman volleyball coach. Tina spoke about her lung cancer, her appreciation of the support that she has received, and the incredible tenacity and enthusiasm she has for life, and all that she does.
  • Memorial High freshman volleyball manager Kindle Tate spoke about her cancer journey. She was celebrated as a cancer survivor.
  • Tricia Mohle, the mother of Stratford High varsity volleyball player Olivia Mohle, spoke about her experiences as a breast cancer survivor, and the support that she’s received from members of both the Memorial and Stratford high school families.
  • Diane Jackson, who is district director of policy administration and governmental relations, spoke about her ongoing battle with breast cancer and her appreciation for the love and support that she has received from the entire Spring Branch community.
