Eleven students at Stratford High School were named Commended Students recently by the National Merit Scholarship Program. In September, about 34,000 of an estimated 50,000 top national scorers on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) were recognized as Commended Students with outstanding academic promise.
Named as Commended Students this year at Stratford High are Brendan Ashby, Griffin Byatt, Ellen Drott, Eric Johnson, Kristina Ko, Haley Lechtenberger, Patrick Mai, Carolyn Powell, Clayton Shillings, Julia Sinelnikova, and John Van Horn.
Also, two students have been named as National Hispanic Scholars. They are Eric David and Vanessa Robinson. The National Hispanic Recognition Program, begun by the College Board in 1983, identifies outstanding Hispanic high school students and shares information about these top students with colleges and universities. In order to be eligible, students must be at least one-quarter Hispanic. Each year, about 3,300 high school students nationwide who took the PSAT/NMSQT as juniors earn the Hispanic Scholar designation.
Stratford High School and SBISD congratulates all these students for their outstanding accomplishments.
