Several students from Wilchester and Edgewood elementary schools entered the Texas Landscapes and Celebrations art contest recently, and no one’s surprise took home big awards. Students were asked to paint a landscape and submit it to the contest.
Winners include Edgewood fifth-grader Mayen Aguilera, and third-grader Cameron McCarthney, both of whom received the Award of Excellence. Wilchester students receiving the Award of Excellence are Charlotte Kaiser, fourth-grade; Sami Diab, third-grade; Mary Schwabenland, second-grade; and Abby Word, first-grade.
Benjamin Heyland, second-grade, and Alex Ashmore, kindergarten, both received the Award of Merit. Receiving Honorable Mentions are Leah Bach and Hannah Pruitt, both second-grade; Jack Davis, Grace Elphingstone, both first-graders; and Georgia Harper, kindergarten. Also awarded, Wilchester kindergartener Abigail McCall received an Award of Participation.
Students who received an Award of Excellence or Award of Merit will have their work featured in Austin at the headquarters of the Texas Education Agency, Texas Commission on the Arts, or at the Legislative Budget Board Dec. 8 through Feb. 8, 2008. Students who received an Honorable Mention or an Award of Participation will receive a certificate, along with their original artwork.
