Four students from Spring Woods and Memorial high schools attended the American Legion-sponsored annual Boys and GirlsState leadership and citizenship training programs. The student programs were held in June on college campuses in Austin and Seguin, Texas, respectively.
Representing Spring Woods High were seniors Stephanie Healy and Miguel Rodriguez. Seniors George “Givens” Miller and Stephen Farver represented Memorial High at BoysState, which was held at the University of Texas at Austin.
Stephanie joined more than 500 high school girls at BluebonnetGirlsState, held June 12-19 at TexasLutheranUniversity in Seguin, Texas. A graduate of Terrace Elementary and SpringOaksMiddle schools, Stephanie is a National Honor Society member. She is also an Advanced Placement student who is active in theater, choir, speech and debate. Her mother, Denise, is a special education language arts teacher at SpringForestMiddle School.
Miguel Rodriguez, who attended Hollibrook and Buffalo Creek elementary schools and is a CornerstoneAcademy graduate, has been the Tigers basketball team manager for three years. A National Honor Roll student, Miguel has earned Academic Achievement awards in U.S. history and physics, been recognized for high grades, and has been invited to attend the upcoming Lead America Youth Leadership Conference.
