Nominations for elementary and secondary Teacher of the Year were received this year from 44 SBISD campuses. The Teacher of the Year Committee interviews all six finalists, then votes on the top two candidates. Superintendent of Schools Duncan Klussmann will announce the winners during the district’s May 6 Service Awards.
The two Teachers of the Year will represent SBISD in regional competition and, if successful at that level, they will compete for the highest state honor bestowed on a teacher – Texas Teacher of the Year.
District winners will also receive a trophy-style Golden Apple award, and thousands of dollars in stipends and cash prizes from the district, the Spring Branch Education Foundation and community business partners.
SBISD teachers have won regional honors in 1990, 1994, 1999 and 2000. Texas Teachers of the Year were named from Spring Branch in 1983, 1985, 1989 and 2000.
