On Sept. 21, students from four Spring Branch ISD campuses took part in Pinwheels for Peace, an international art and literacy project, by “planting” pinwheels with peace messages around their school flag poles. Taking part in the nonpolitical, nationwide art installation program founded in 2005 by two Florida teachers were students and teachers from Northbrook, Spring Branch and Spring Oaks middle schools, and Hollibrook Elementary School.
At Northbrook Middle School, students in advisory classes created pinwheels of all shapes and sizes, painted them, and wrote out their thoughts about war and peace and living in harmony with others. The art project coincided with the calendar’s International Day of Peace. Last year, more than 1 million pinwheels were spinning in more than 2,350 locations around the world. (9-25-07)
