Lowe's Toolbox grants improve campuses
Two Spring Branch elementary schools have received Toolbox for Education grants valued at $5,000 each through the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. One grant has been used to beautify the grounds at Terrace Elementary School, 10400 Rothbury; another will help support a Bring Science to Life Project at Spring Shadows Elementary, 9725 Kempwood Drive, later this fall.

Terrace Elementary used its Lowe's grant to support a June 23 landscaping project that improved the school entrance and created a “memory walk” with donated brick pavers. More than 85 volunteers helped with the summertime project, which involved 2,000 plants and four tons of landscaping soil and mulch.

At Spring Shadows Elementary, the Toolbox for Education grant will help science teachers and volunteers build a pond habitat, update a garden for use as an outdoor classroom and add aquariums and terrariums to the campus science lab. (9-10-07)
