Rummel Creek Elementary School staff and students may be featured on KPRC TV-2 during the week of Sept. 2-8 in advance of a community walk focusing on the issue of food allergies. According to news reports, food allergies now affect up to 1 in every 25 Americans of all ages.
School nurse Karen Schroeter and third-grade student Davis Palmie are expected to speak with anchor Dominique Sachse for a special news segment, which will highlight the processes and procedures in place at Rummel Creek Elementary to support students with food allergies. The elementary campus has trained teachers and other staff in food allergy identification and response procedures.
The 2007 Walk for Food Allergy will be held in Sam Houston Park on Saturday, Sept. 8, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. The 2.5-mile walk along scenic Allen Parkway begins one hour later.
