The Interscholastic League Press Conference has awarded a Bronze Star to the Memorial High student newspaper, The Anvil, placing the student produced and edited publication among the top 10 percent of such newspapers statewide. The student newspaper was one of 29 newspapers in Texas to receive a Star-level award from the ILPC, which is an affiliate of the University Interscholastic League, and is one of the nation’s largest state high school associations of student newspapers and yearbooks.
The award, presented in April at the University of Texas at Austin, followed judging by an ILPC panel. The Anvil’s editor-in-chief this year was Brendan Taylor,. Assistant editors were Christine Smith and Christine Strake. Other editors included Amrita Vir, Kaitlyn Dawson, Helen Delone, Caroline Watkins, Nicole Goodman, Annelise Moore and Emily Schwabenband. The newspaper had a reporting staff of 11 students and six photographers. The newspaper’s adviser is Cathy Bottoms.
