Students enrolled in the Scientific Research & Design Class at Spring Branch School of Choice were awarded first place by Houston Community College’s Northwest Campus for a custom-made, scented candle project. Three students also won $500 community college scholarships.
Students developed and produced a variety of scented candles in the School of Choice science laboratory, then packaged and marketed the candles. They competed with several other SBISD student research and design teams, as well as several Sam Houston State University professors.
School of Choice students Julio Cornejo, Nancy Ramos and Deana Castillo Westmoreland won $500 scholarships, pending enrollment. Other members of the school’s research and design team were Briseida Gonzales, Beatriz Ledesma and Marvin Dyico. School of Choice science teachers are Jackie Gerbermann and Poonam Tanwani.
