Girl Power Conference set for May 9

Spring Branch ISD and Spring Forest Middle School will sponsor a Girl Power Conference for SFMS seventh-graders and their mothers or guardians from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Spring Forest Middle School, 14240 Memorial Drive. This conference-style meeting, a pilot program, will also include breakout sessions on topics ranging from body image and eating disorders to goal setting and healthy living. A dinner, hairstyle show and keynote speech are also planned.

Several SBISD Departments, including Health Fitness andSafe and Drug Free Schools will join Girl Scouts of America, the Paul Mitchell School and others in providing support materials and small gifts. Several girls and boys groups are now organized across the district in many middle schools. Girl Power and Act Like a Man groups meet in several middle and high schools to address issues ranging from peer pressure and bullying to teenage stress and good decision-making.
