Two principals named H-E-B semifinalists
Two SBISD principals have been named semifinalists during preliminary judging of the 2008 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. Each principal was awarded $500 in H-E-B gift cards for making it to the semifinalist level, a competition ranking earned by only 50 principals across Texas, according to awards program officials.

Spring Woods High Principal Wayne Schaper Jr. and Housman Elementary Principal Jerona Williams were recently named as H-E-B semifinalists. Both Schaper and Williams were recognized by their peers as district Principals of the Year last spring. Both campus leaders have impressive records of accomplishment and leadership.

Principal Schaper is a graduate of Pine Shadows Elementary, Spring Woods Junior High and Northbrook High School. In addition to Spring Woods High, where he has been principal for six years, Schaper served as principal at Spring Forest Middle School and as an assistant principal at Northbrook Middle School.

Married for 24 years to Kristy, a teacher at Stratford High, Schaper is the father of three daughters – Hallie, Katie and Kylie – ranging in age from 18 to 11 years old. Two daughters attend Stratford High; Kylie is a student at Memorial Middle School.

Housman Elementary Principal Jerona Williams, a native of Elloree, S.C., was named a “Living Legend” by her own staff last year. Principal at Housman for nine years, she was an assistant principal at Shadow Oaks Elementary and taught dance for 19 years before that in Houston ISD.

Among other interests, her community-auctioned handmade quilts have helped raise thousands of dollars for her campus. H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program several years ago to support public education in Texas.
