School nurse named one of Houston's best

Diane Roberts, who is school nurse at Housman Elementary, will be honored May 7 as one of Houston’s 10 Outstanding Nurses as part of the Houston Chronicle’s annual Salute to Nurses. This regional recognition was created to honor outstanding nurses and nursing students during National Nurses Appreciation Week, the newspaper stated in a news release.

Diane and a guest will be honored during a May 7 luncheon at the downtown Four Seasons Hotel Houston. She will also be profiled in the newspaper’s special section on Sunday, May 11, and will also receive a commemorative award, a $500 gift certificate and flowers.

She was nominated by campus Principal Jerona Williams. After learning of her award, Diane said that many of her colleagues deserved recognition, too. “I want to share this honor with Wanda Bodon, Leticia Lozano, Guujse Moore, Joyce Moore, Melissa Green, Jackie Truesdale, Myron Crawford, Brenda Miles, Consuelo Espinoza, Betty Larson and Nelda Laughter, Roy Reyes, Brenda Lynch and the five community volunteers who work with me to provide healthcare to our students daily at Housman,” she said. “This award is also an awesome recognition for our SBISD Health Services Program.”

The campus is located at 6705 Housman on Spring Branch’s eastern side.
