Superintendent of Schools Duncan Klussmann was named 2007-08 Boss of the Year during the Spring Branch Educational Support Association’s (SBESA) annual Bosses’ Night, held April 10 at Westchester Academy for International Studies. Proceeds from several live and silent auctions held during the evening event netted $2,900 for the SBESA Student Scholarship Fund.
Superintendent’s Office staffers Martha Korioth and Pat Neal joined Spring Woods Middle and SBESA Bosses’ Night chair Gwen Evans in filing separate nominations on behalf of Dr. Klussmann, which were combined.
“Dr. Klussmann has proven to be a visionary leader as evidenced by the district’s increased student achievement. He has implemented increased efficiencies in many areas of instruction and was instrumental in the recent passage of the 2007 Bond Election, allowing SBISD to continue to be one of the premier districts in Texas,” his nomination states. “His care, concern and commitment to providing high quality education to all students in SBISD is clearly demonstrated every day.”
Seven administrators were nominated for SBESA Boss of the Year. They were Spring Forest Middle Prinicpal Shawn Bird, Associate Superintendent Curriculum & Instruction Jennifer Blaine, Advanced Academic Studies Director Lynette Breedlove, Accountability & Research Executive Director Dr. Keith Haffey, Fine Arts Director Rusty Hess, Sherwood Elementary Principal Anita Jacobs, and The Guthrie Center Principal Joe Kolenda.
Masters of Ceremonies for Bosses’ Night were Spring Woods Middle Assistant Principal Bill Burger and Valley Oaks Elementary Principal Gary Henry. The Guthrie Center’s Joe Kolenda was event DJ. A basket designed by Memorial Middle School staff for the auction drew the highest auction bid of $571.
SBESA officers Maria Campos, president, and Gwen Evans, Bosses’ Night chair, were assisted for this year's event by committee chairpersons Jan Lampart, Belinda Warren, Carlton Sands, Carroll Harkins, Laura Escobedo, Pat Schulz, LaVerne Tedder and Vicki Kaiser.
