Spring Woods High seniors are JA finalists
Six Spring Woods High seniors who are officers in the campus’ Junior Achievement and Business Professionals of America program have been named finalists in the Company Program Officer and Achiever of the Year competition sponsored by JA of Southeast Texas. This successful high school program is directed by Career & Technology Education instructor Estie Cuellar.

Named as Company Program finalists are seniors Marcos Martinez, president; Samantha Hong, finance; Kim Ngo, production; Garrett Simmons, marketing; Joel Huerta, public relations; and Minh Hong, human resources. All six Spring Woods High seniors have made college decisions. Martinez received a $55,000 scholarship and will attend the University of Colorado. Other post-graduation student destinations are, respectively, Hong to UT-Austin; Ngo to Trinity University in San Antonio; Simmons to Texas A&M University in College Station; Huerta to UT-San Antonio; and Hong to the University of St. Thomas in Houston.

Among other student projects, the JA Company Program at Spring Woods High, also called WINC, created the centerpieces for the joint Spring Branch Education Foundation and Houston Chronicle sponsored Crystal Awards gala, held this spring. The centerpieces were hand-crafted lamps designed from recycled wine bottles. The students have posted the unsold lamps on their website, www.winchouston.com, which is set up as an e-commerce site. Free delivery is available for those living in Spring Branch.
