The national spokesperson for the anti-alcohol and drug program known as DARE appeared March 13 at Spring Branch Middle School, 1000 Piney Point, and addressed students along with the school's own Straightway team. The 71-member student Straightway team has pledged to lead a "straight" life and not use alcohol, drugs or tobacco.

DARE's national spokesperson is called Retro Bill. The Spring Branch Middle students wrote up a musical introduction to the special program and performed a short program. Spring Branch Middle teacher Genie Renaudin helped coordinate the special morning event.
