Seventh-graders prepare for "Discovery" trip
More than 90 seventh-graders at Westchester Academy for International Studies will soon spend three days camping out near Navasota, Texas, as part of a three-day, residential education experience known as the Discovery Program. The March 12-14 field trip marks the seventh year that the mostly urban students from the district public charter school will take part in this outdoor learning event.

This year’s trip will include lessons in aquatic biology, water quality, forest ecology, and the study of reptiles, or herpetology. The seventh-graders will also take part in challenge-based activities, such as canoeing, orienteering and a special high-elements ropes course. Enrollment is open to all Westchester Academy seventh-graders and a scholarship fund has been established to help defray costs.

Westchester Academy science teacher Jim Isleib directs the Discovery Program. To view photographs of previous field trips to the Navasota camp, please visit his website at http://wais.springbranchisd.com/, or call him at the secondary school at 713-365-5678. Media queries should be directed to Steve Brunsman in the SBISD Communications Department at 713-464-1511, ext. 2465.
