Principal, student win writing project awards
Spring Woods High Principal Wayne Schaper Jr. and Bunker Hill fifth-grader Iris Cronin have earned separate writing-related awards from the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas-Abydos Learning International. Principal Schaper has received the group’s Principal A+ Honor Roll Award for his support of teachers and his commitment to their professional growth in writing instruction. He will be honored March 29 in Austin during the instructional group’s Annual Teachers’ and Trainers’ Conference.

Fifth-grader Iris Cronin, meanwhile, has won first place in the Dana Kay Barber Writing Contest prose category, grades 4-5, for a work titled “You Are My Sunshine.” NJWPT-Abydos Learning International also sponsors the writing contest. Iris’s work was chosen from among 600 entries spanning more than 30 school districts. She will be recognized in Austin next month, too. Her instructor at Bunker Hill Elementary is Nancy Wahl.
