Web-based software training is only computer mouse clicks away

Learning never stops. Spring Branch ISD in recent weeks has extended free access to its web-based software training provider to all staff members, students and parents. Atomic Learning provides training on more than 100 commonly used software applications, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and iMovie. Childress Academy students repair home; grads earn scholarships

Thirty-four students from Northbrook High’s Childress Foundation Academy program repaired the home of an elderly southeast Houston couple during a volunteer community service project held Saturday, Oct. 20. In separate but related news, 17 Childress Academy graduates from the high school have received renewable scholarships valued at between $1,000 and $1,500 for college or career studies.

Students confront bullying at ADL Youth Summit

More than 200 middle school students and their teachers learned how to better recognize bullying behaviors and then challenge and confront them during the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL’s) recently held Beau and Abe Merfish No Place for Hate® Youth Summit. The Summit was held Oct. 16 at Westchester Academy for International Studies, 901 Yorkchester.

Gifted and Talented meetings planned this week

Two separate Gifted and Talented meetings will be held this week. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Dr. Joyce Juntune will present separate English and Spanish language programs on giftedness in students at separate locations. Then, on Thursday, Oct. 18, a special presentation will be held at noon focusing on the Advanced Academic Studies Department's Five-year Plan. Dr. Lynette Breedlove, the department's director, will conduct that meeting.
