Etching donated to Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum

A retired Spring Branch ISD resident has donated an etching by famous Flemish artist Anton Van Dyck to the privately financed Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum, located on the campus of Westchester Academy for International Studies, 901 Yorkchester. Spring Branch’s only public art museum is home to 600 artifacts and fine art pieces. Plan a museum visit this fall.

Memorial High names 31 National Merit Commended Students

Take a bow, Commended Students! Thirty-one students who attend Memorial High School have been recognized as Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. In recent days, about 34,000 of an estimated 50,000 top national scorers on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) earned this commendation as students with outstanding academic promise.

Houston Rodeo boosts scholarships to $15,000

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has announced that it is increasing most of its scholarship awards from $12,000 to $15,000. This year’s awards by the nonprofit organization will go to more than 500 graduating seniors who qualify through the application process and attend college in Texas.

Five named National Hispanic and National Achievement scholars

Biennial All-Class Reunion will be held Oct. 6

Five students at Stratford High were recently named National Merit Semifinalists, based on student scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, commonly called the PSAT. They are Sarah Byerley, Matthew Furman, John Hollywood, Justin Schneider and Andrew Waddell. As semifinalists, they rank among the top scorers in Texas.

Museum displays Pine Shadows Elementary student art

Memorial High officials report that 24 students have been named National Merit Semifinalists, based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, commonly called the PSAT. Semifinalists rank among the top scorers in Texas. They represent less than 1 percent of all American high school seniors, the College Board reports.

Grants director wins gold in China
