Primary Reading Program - For students in grades PreK - 2nd grade.  Begins Tuesday after Labor Day and ends on October 31st.  Students fill in a reading log and earn awards.  Celebrations for students receiving books are in December.  A pamphlet will come home with each child in the primary grades.  Students may bring in logs to the library as they reach the various awards, or wait until they finish in October.  Goal of this program is to establish a 15 minute a night reading time.  Students in PreK/Kindergarten and First grade may have parents read to them and record those titles.  this is a voluntary program.

2 X 2 Reading Program - Sponsored by the Texas Library Association.  This reading program gives appropriate titles for students from age 2 to grade 2.  No awards are given, this is just to help parents select appropriate titles for their children.

Book Bunch - This is for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.  Students come to the library one morning at 7:30 and select a brand new book to read and review.  Once they have read the book (and filled out a short review form) they come a second morning at 7:45 to be on KRCE where they will share information about the book or books they have read.

The book selection morning will be assigned through an invitation flyer (we have to have new books ready for the students).  Parents may select any morning to be on KRCE.  Students do not need to let me know when they will be on KRCE; they just need to show up in the library with their book review and books at 7:30 am.  Parents are welcome to watch their children on KRCE.

Students will select books from a cart of new books located in the Library Storage Room (they will be the first to read the book).  On the morning that they select their books, they will make a book plate to place in the book acknowledging that they are the first one to read it.  The books will be checked out to the student until they review it on KRCE.

Blogging Bluebonnets - Check out the Blog on Bluebonnet Books.  Add your comments as well.  This is a great way to discuss the Bluebonnet titles - especially if you don't want to come early for breakfast.

Texas Bluebonnet Award - This program is for students in grades 3 - 5.  A master list of books is available from the Texas Library Association.  Students read books from the list from August through January.  In January we vote with the rest of the students in Texas.  A celebration will be held in the Spring semester for students reading more than 10 titles from the list.

Books 'n Breakfast - Held the third Friday of each month in the library at 7:30 am.  Parents and children come and discuss a book while they enjoy a simple breakfast.  Students must let the librarian know they are coming the Wednesday before the breakfast by signing up in the library or sending an e-mail. (This let's me know how many to prepare for.)  To participate in a Books 'n Breakfast a student must have read more than two thirds of the book being discussed.

Here are the books for each month:

SeptemberGeorge Crum and the Saratoga Chip By Gaylia Taylor; OctoberWho Stole Halloween? By Martha Freeman; NovemberYear of the Dog By Grace Lin; December – Pompeii Lost and Found By Mary Pope Osborne; JanuaryBella at Midnight by Diane Stanley

Battle of the Books - This year we will try to do a modified Battle of the Books.  The list of books that we will discuss is available on a flyer at the circulation desk.  Most of the books will come from the Bluebonnet List this year.  This is a program that is still in it's infancy....please check the Road Runner Express for more information.
