All Spring Branch ISD employees are encouraged to use the internet for business purposes. It is important to read and understand completely the guidelines and restrictions for Internet and email use. These are available on pages 11 and 12 of the SBISD Employee Handbook. As per page 11 and 12 of the SBISD Employee Handbook, answers to common questions are:
Q1: May I use the Internet or email for personal communication or research?
A1: Personal use of email and the Internet should be restricted to reasonable periods of time such as coffee and lunch breaks.
Q2: Does the district monitor what sites employees visit?
A2: Internet use of all District computers is monitored daily. When any computer has an abnormal number of attempts to access inappropriate sites, the following procedures are followed.
- The Police Department and Human Resources are notified.
- The Police Department investigates the incident for any violation of state or federal laws and for violations of District policy.
- If the occurrence was a violation of the law, the Police Department will handle the investigation and file any necessary charges. The results of the investigation are then turned in to the Human Resources Department for administrative action.
- If the occurrence was a violation of school district policy only the Police Department will turn over the results of its investigation to the Human Resources Department.
- If it is found that the violation was by an employee, disciplinary action will be taken by the Human Resources Department.
- If it is found that the violation was by a student, disciplinary action will be taken by the school administration.
